Prof. Paul Dorey, is known for his strategic leadership in cybersecurity. Now Visiting Professor in information Security at Royal Holloway his award winning career in Cybersecurity Risk Management includes Executive leadership roles at Deutsche Bank/Morgan Grenfell, Barclays Bank and BP.
He works with the Maritime community as expert and facilitator of the Joint working group informing IACS in the development of their Cyber Security Recommendations.
The 2017 IMO Cybersecurity guidance recognised that cybertechnologies are now essential to numerous ship systems critical to safety and security and vulnerabilities could have major impacts. Achieving good security spans everything from user behaviours, to every piece of hardware, software and network connection. But ships are not office buildings full of IT staff, so long-standing security approaches and standards cannot be applied without a lot of practical smart thinking.
My work with the joint working group on cybersecurity supporting IACS has identified exactly these issues. I will share my own views on maritime cybersecurity and how we matched cybersecurity requirements to actual risk. I will look at who is responsible for security, from the system manufacturer, the shipyard and operator.
